Alan Schultz CEO of Pedals for Progress (our shipper for the bike drives) spoke to the club this week.
Alan replaced P4P founder Dave Schweidenback when Dave retired as CEO in 2020. Alan was a former employee / volunteer and was familiar with the collection business already. He tells us operations are back to normal after the pandemic. He has already visited several countries in Europe, Africa and Latin America discussing new agreements and he told us about the new partnership in Belize.
Our club has been collecting bikes and sewing machines through P4P for over 15 years, a project originally started by member Jim Jones. Collections have grown from to nearly 100 bicycle in recent years since we started collecting year round. Things were slow during the pandemic as people were holding on to bikes. P4P is in their 32nd year of operation and has collected over 166,000 bicycles.
Our next collection is in 2 weeks on May 20th from 12p-3p at Norristown Area High School. If you have a bike to donate, bring it out or see Mark.
to benefit the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library
The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is hosting its annual fundraiser, June Jazz, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. As a fellow Rotarian, I would love to see you there! Our celebration will be held rain or shine at von C Brewing Company, 1210 Stanbridge Street, Suite 300, Norristown. We use the proceeds from June Jazz to purchase new library materials including books, magazines, e-books, and more. Your support for June Jazz will make a difference in the lives of every single person who uses public libraries in Montgomery County.
June Jazz is a fun event where our guests will enjoy terrific food choices, wine and draft beer, live music, a silent auction, door prizes, and the company of friends old and new. June Jazz wouldn’t be true to its name without live music! The ever-popular N Town Band (a.k.a. Kool Kats) will return to perform live jazz for our guests. Our silent auction will include baskets with tickets to cultural attractions, sporting events, restaurant and retail gift cards, fine wine & spirits, handcrafted items, and more. Make sure to bring your checkbook or credit card along, because there are sure to be auction items that will put a sparkle in your eye.
Every ticket sold helps the Library, but if you want to boost your help to the next level, consider becoming a June Jazz sponsor! Sponsorship levels range from Bookworm ($250.00) to Author ($2,500.00). Sponsors will be highlighted at the event, in the program, and on our website, based on the level of sponsorship. We will also place sponsors’ names on bookplates in new books added to the Library’s collection.
Tickets, sponsorships, and donations may all be purchased online:
If you are interested in sponsoring the event, you also have the option of completing the attached sponsorship form and mailing it in to us with your payment.
Please mark your calendars and get your tickets for Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks. The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital. Start a jar, they add up. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information
