LOOKING FOR THE CLUB CALENDAR?
Dave Shoemaker has made it easy to find
I have switched the calendar page in our website to show the google calendar for "norristownrotary.org".
There has been some confusion over calendars in the past. From now on, the google calendar is the only one. I have told Sunanda about the change. She only needs to edit one calendar. ( although the future is rather empty at the moment, different issue ).
No one is required to login to clubrunner to see this. They just search for or go to "norristownrotary.org" and click on the calendar page. Editing the thing requires logging into the club's google account.

VARIETY CLUB GRANT PROJECT VOTE
garden/greenhouse program
It was really great reconnecting with you this morning at OIC. This was a very rewarding experience and well organized by Denise and Skippack Pharmacy. So many dedicated volunteers there. Glad we worked together and got reacquainted.
As promised, we need your help again at Variety. We applied for a grant and need votes in order to win an award of $5000 for the garden/greenhouse program.
Could you vote and forward the link to your family and friends? Once you vote you will get an email reply to confirm.
You can also put Variety on facebook to follow.
We are close in votes and could use all of the help and support! Please come visit the garden one day, we'd love to show you what Variety Works kids are doing.
JIM NUTT is leading a project to gage the interest in purchasing new NORRISTOWN ROTARY shirts for the upcoming season. Please look at the link below, check out the Rotary clothing section, and see if there are any shirts that you would consider purchasing.
The last year has certainly been one of crisis, but crisis sometimes presents more opportunities to grow and create impact. Due to the pandemic, the county shelters had to operate below their normal capacity, and there was a critical lack of shelter beds. We resumed our conversations with the First Presbyterian Church regarding a Winter Shelter, for which we have been formulating plans since 2019. The pandemic presented a perfect opportunity to partner with our neighbors, and in January this year, we opened our Code Blue Shelter at the First Presbyterian Church at Norristown.
With a combination of staff and volunteers, we successfully ran the shelter for 30 plus nights. After going through an appeal process, we were granted approval by a unanimous vote of the Zoning Hearing Board on March 23rd. We are grateful to all our volunteers, staff, and especially to the leadership at the First Presbyterian Church at Norristown for coming together in a time of crisis and making it possible to provide more people a safe and warm place to sleep.
The Hospitality Center will now be a provider of shelter during Code Blue Nights in Montgomery County. What a great addition to much-needed resources in Norristown. This would not have been possible without the generous support of our donor who wishes to remain anonymous and who donated $15,000 to the Code Blue Shelter Operations. We are grateful for everyone that helped us directly and indirectly. We would like to acknowledge Your Way Home, Laurel House, CHOC, Einstein Montgomery Hospital, Al's Heart in Pottstown, Ann's Heart in Phoenixville, The Interfaith Group, and our wonderful partners in this vital work, the First Presbyterian Church at Norristown for your valuable support. Onwards!!!!

Last Thursday, the club welcomed DINA NOUAIME from the BORGEN PROJECT, who explained the project's goal of ending hunger through Congressional initiatives. The group has been active aver the last several years. She pointed out the only 1% of the federal budget is dedicated to foreign aid, so they lobby for initiatives supporting global poverty legislation. She stated that it has been shown the governmental involvement in these projects is extremely important, and that COVID has made the worldwide poverty situation even more critical. , works to mobilize the public, and raise the awareness in the problem. The reasons for the Project are humanitarian, economic, national security, and environmental.
Thanks to Dina for bringing us this information ob the BORGEN PROJECT.
You can get more information on the project from Dina at her contact, and learn how you can get involved.
