Hi all — We’re planning a garden work day on October 24 to prepare the garden for winter and plant bulbs for spring. We hope many of you will be able to help.
In the meantime, there is still some weeding to do, so Diane will be there on Saturday mornings from 8–9 a.m. Anyone willing to join her for an hour will be most welcome.

GOVERNOR SENSENIG WITH CLUB PRESIDENT ALAN TREISBACH
Last Thursday the Club welcomed our District Governor, Jeremiah Sensenig to our meeting and special Board meeting. Governor Sensenig ask at the Board about all our community projects, fund raising , membership, and succession structure. He stressed that preparing individuals for future leadership positions is a high priority for the District, with 1/3 of their total budget going to that education cause. He related that many of our causes and project are reflected in the programs of other clubs in the District.
In the general meeting, Jeremiah talked about his upbringing and history in Rotary. He has settled in this area with his wife and two kids. He joined the Rotary Club of West Reading where he became its president in 2008, and then served an additional 2 terms before graduating to District level positions to now where he is our Governor.
When Governor Sensenig visits the District clubs, he likes to educate and introduce members to the ROTARY ACTION PLAN, which is a detailed program on how to interpret District goals and how clubs should develop their own strategic plans. The PLAN has four major objectives that, if followed, will help with growth and relevance to the community.
1. ENGAGEMENT - Growing clubs all have dynamic service programs and find ways to attract new members by offering what he calls, "Bite Size " projects , where members can volunteer for short, quick projects and become more founded as members.
Other important factors are offering fellowship, and place to meet others, and finding ways to keep individual costs down.
2. EXPAND REACH -Pay attention to and encourage potential members - He stressed the importance of social media such as Facebook, to reach out to the community at large, and find ways to attract attention to our club. Use it to publicize our projects, events, and involvement. Examples of this are Student of the Month awards, Camp Neidig, and other activities of general interest that can expand our reach.
3. INCREASE IMPACT- He stressed the need to find ways to benefit the community without exhausting the members. He liked our monthly small project approach as a way to attract new members and increase the visibility of the Club. Also, it is important to continue to explore new ways for fundraising.
4. INCREASE OUR ABILITY TO ADAPT- This is very important in this day and age , in order to maximize the number of people who will be willing to attend your meetings. This means exploring different times, places, and formats for meetings. He stressed that it is important to approach people where they are today, and find ways to accommodate as many as possible. This can involve not only time and place, but also the degree and nature of meeting content. ROTERAC CLUBS are an increasing importance for future membership building.
