Please Help the Ronald McDonald House
The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks. The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital. Start a jar, they add up. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information
It was a drizzly day last Saturday. Due to the planned fireworks, West Norriton decided to postpone 'West Norriton Day' celebrations until Sunday when the weather was better. But the 'Bike Collection' went on anyway since the event was pre-advertised and we had made truck arrangements with Pedals for Progress coming from New Jersey. Their schedule this time of year is pretty tight. And more often than not, our drives have occurred on rainy spring Saturdays.
It was a good collection. We picked up the bikes we had collected all year and loaded the truck and headed to the high school. We had numerous visitors dropping bikes at the high school including some looking for the fireworks. Pedals for Progress provided training on breaking down a bike to make it small for shipping.
We processed the new bikes coming in and with 15 minutes to go, we started to break down the tent, and another donor came with 5 bikes. But we have plenty of help from Dave Shoemaker, Judy Bucko, Jack Rule, and Alan Treisbach and made quick work of it.
This is our 15th year collecting bicycles. Rotarian Jim Jones began this project originally in 2008. Around 2012 we started collecting bikes year round. Collections were down during the pandemic and are only now starting to come back.
This year we collected 65 bikes and 2 sewing machines saved from the landfill. The bikes are headed to the country of Belize in June and will become family transportation where they have no cars nor public transportation.
These bikes and sewing machines mean remote jobs and education and help the environment by keeping clean energy bicycles out of our landfills.
The Club Board met on May 18th. There were not enough board members to reach a quorum so the Board could not transact any business.
Committee reports were recorded regardless.
TREASURY: No Report
STEMYEA: The club is at risk of losing our two seats at the STEMYEA camp in July. The school has been solicited for attendees but we have received no response. And time is running out as well as the school year.
CAMP NEIDIG: We reached out to the four parents involved and expect to hear back shortly.
SCHOLARSHIPS: We have selected 4 scholarship winners and the school has been notified. Denise will make a presentation a the schools award ceremony in June.
MEMBERSHIP: We have moved our membership inquiry from Google Forms. All inquiries funnel through the ClubRunner 'Membership Success' system which provides candidate tracking and notification facilities.
CHANGEOVER PICNIC: The pavilion is reserved, the committee needs to select a caterer and move quickly to meet the June 15th date.
BUTTERFLY GARDEN
We have been experiencing some vandalism issues. Someone removed bricks from the stack and threw them in the creek. This weekend, someone tipped over the massive plaque boulder on its back. It's too heavy, and help is needed to right it.
to benefit the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library
The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is hosting its annual fundraiser, June Jazz, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. As a fellow Rotarian, I would love to see you there! Our celebration will be held rain or shine at von C Brewing Company, 1210 Stanbridge Street, Suite 300, Norristown. We use the proceeds from June Jazz to purchase new library materials including books, magazines, e-books, and more. Your support for June Jazz will make a difference in the lives of every single person who uses public libraries in Montgomery County.
June Jazz is a fun event where our guests will enjoy terrific food choices, wine and draft beer, live music, a silent auction, door prizes, and the company of friends old and new. June Jazz wouldn’t be true to its name without live music! The ever-popular N Town Band (a.k.a. Kool Kats) will return to perform live jazz for our guests. Our silent auction will include baskets with tickets to cultural attractions, sporting events, restaurant and retail gift cards, fine wine & spirits, handcrafted items, and more. Make sure to bring your checkbook or credit card along, because there are sure to be auction items that will put a sparkle in your eye.
Every ticket sold helps the Library, but if you want to boost your help to the next level, consider becoming a June Jazz sponsor! Sponsorship levels range from Bookworm ($250.00) to Author ($2,500.00). Sponsors will be highlighted at the event, in the program, and on our website, based on the level of sponsorship. We will also place sponsors’ names on bookplates in new books added to the Library’s collection.
Tickets, sponsorships, and donations may all be purchased online:
If you are interested in sponsoring the event, you also have the option of completing the attached sponsorship form and mailing it in to us with your payment.
Please mark your calendars and get your tickets for Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
