President Alan Treisbach announced to the club that we now have a succession plan for the Club President for the upcoming year.
SHANE KUNKEL has agreed to accept the position next year. Shane was appointed by the Board to fill the unfilled position of Second Vice President and then automatically will move up to president next year.
Thank you Shane for filling this critical position.
BIKE COLLECTION
Thank you to all who braved the elements to help with our Pedals for Progress bike collection last Saturday. We prepped and packed up over 60 bikes for reuse in third world countries.

From Diane Helm
Hi all — We’re planning a garden work day on October 24 to prepare the garden for winter and plant bulbs for spring. We hope many of you will be able to help.
In the meantime, there is still some weeding to do, so Diane will be there on Saturday mornings from 8–9 a.m. Anyone willing to join her for an hour will be most welcome.
Thanks for your willingness to help in this community garden.

Last week we were very fortunate to have as our speaker, Dr. Dorrell Green, the new Superintendent for the Norristown Area School District. Dr. Green gave us an overview of his introductionary transitional phase in taking over as superintendent of the school district. His main aim is to engage the school community and learn more about the Norristown community in general. He is meeting and getting to know school and community leaders and working with citizen groups. He highlighted the many problems facing the district in the areas of changing demographics, low performance in literacy and math, and the need for better access to capital from the state.
Dr. Green related that he is instituting a more traditional and tested approach to math, which has seen a renewed interest around the country, and hopes will improve math comprehension and application in Norristown.
He also stressed the need for new approach to literacy with the implementation of a knowledge base approach aimed at the major problem that people just do not open books the way we had in the past. The problem is exacerbated by the need to teach basic English at the same time trying to engage all students in improving face to face communication skills.
A very important aspect of his visit here, was his learning about all the education related activities the Rotary offers a community. We showed him some of the things we currently do such as Student recognition, scholarships, Spanish / English dictionary project (which he encouraged us to continue), STEMYEA participation, and several other past and present programs. We engaged him in very informative discussions on how we can better work together with the district in the future. Including such activities as forming again an Interact Club in the high school, entering the 4-Way Speech Contest, and Camp Neidig opportunities for students.
Thank You Dr. Green for this important and informative visit, opening up communications channels for the future.
He is not an EAGLES fan, but assured us he is also not a Cowboys fan.
