CHRISTINE STUTMAN,  - NAMI
 
 
Last week the Club welcomed CHRISTINE STUTMAN, Executive Director of NAMI Montgomery County. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Health, is one of the largest grassroots orginazitions in the U.S. concentrating on supporting those suffering with mental health difficulties. 
Their's is a local chapter of a national orginazition with each chapter acting on its own for local projects. Christine relates how their chapter works to add special interest groups to their agenda such as the recently added support group for women's veterans. They also present training for volunteers , special community education classes such as how to deal with crisis when it occurs, and they also present workshops.
NAMI works with 13 area high schools with 60 min presentations on 'what is mental health', and maintains what they term a "warm line" where people can call in with questions or want to talk about specific problems.
NAMI Monto has a staff of 5 full-time workers and handles around 10,000 cases a year. The often partner with other local organizations like Laurel House to carry out common goals, and have a program-NAMI in the Lobby, where they set up in various clinics and offer supplemental assistance to the patients that a visiting the clinic.
