TERRY REED - District Environmental Chair

At our April 7 meeting, the Club welcomed TERRY REED, the District 7430 Environmental Sustainability Committee Chair, who spoke about Rotary's new Area of Focus, protecting the environment. Terry heads the newly formed committee shared with implementing RI's goals in protecting the environment. The committee has worked to set up a list of resources for district clubs to use in setting up their individual projects. The list includes organizations, government agencies, Rotary info, and many other areas of direction to use. They are encouraging clubs to establish environmental project and work together with neighboring clubs, to work on larger undertakings.

April 30 is a day set aside for special projects, such as our Padden Park Garden Project work day. Currently, our Area9 has 100% club participation.

We thank Terry for bringing this message to us.
See his contact info below for more detail or to get involved.

Your Public Image Committee
One of Rotary's most important roles is to communicate clearly, consistently and concisely.

Rotary's organizational goals are broad in nature, the messages Rotary sends must remain on focus. Random uncoordinated communication only creates confusion, misunderstanding and creates havoc, limiting success.  It is critical that others both inside and outside the organization, understand why Rotary exists and what it is trying to accomplish, if Rotary hopes to gain their support.

A few years ago Rotary enlisted marketing experts to help standardize Rotary's communications and branding.  The results were specific recommendations including a new organization logo, new standard colors, and specific theme communication approaches.  But recommending is not enough to both define new standards and expect them to be implemented across such a large mass of clubs worldwide. So like other districts, two years ago, District 7430 formed a 'Public Image Committee'.

Representatives were requested from each club to participate, learn and act as catalyst in implementing these changes.  Lou Bottitta (Allentown Club) was selected to organize this committee, much of the work could be organized remotely via Zoom.  Goals and incentives were established and the core committee began contacting other clubs requesting participation, spreading awareness and requesting a level of compliance in shifting our public icons to the new standards.  Under Lou's guidance, the committee was able to assess club website and Facebook compliance using the new branding and increase district compliance from 35% to 75%.  Thank you, Lou. It was a great success.  There is still work to be done.  The committee is committed and focused on increasing communication effectiveness both inside as well as outside of Rotary.  The first two years were very fruitful.  And now, Lou has decided to retire and move to Florida to spend retirement years in warmer climes.  Amy Sheller (Kutztown Club) has stepped up to take the reins and move the committee forward to the next phase.  Please congratulate Amy (AmyShellerRotary@gmail.com) and thank her for her leadership.  If you have questions or would like to participate just ask.   Stay tuned for the committee goals in taking the P/I to the next level.

- USEFUL TIPS -

Technical Tip: Keep my gmail out of promotions
        But, It's NOT Spam.

Is some of your expected gmail missing from the Inbox?

Aside from regular spam filtering, sometimes Google also takes  a guess at your incoming gmail and pre-categorizes it in order to cut down on spam. The Tabs 'Social' and 'Promotions' capture some of your email instead.
Well, Google doesn't always get it right.

Fortunately, even though that is the default setting, you can change the setting and control your pre-categorization completely and get all your mail back in the old inbox.
YOU can select select the problem email in 'Promotions' and drag it to the inbox,  OR....
A more reliable way is to control your own categories  or  simply have none at all.  If you uncheck the 'Social" and 'Promotions' categories in settings, your future email will not appear in those virtual folders but rather in your old inbox as expected.

Here's what you do to fix it.
Go to your inbox settings link. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/inbox
Uncheck the boxes 'Social' and 'Promotions', AND CLICK SAVE
From now on it will appear in the old inbox as expected.
