MELISSA SNYDER Happy 2 Be Home
Last Thursday, MELISSA SYYDER came to talk about her community child assistance organization, Happy 2 Be Home. This group was created to assist families with chronically disabled children, build a better living environment for the kids.
Their MISSION says it all "To enable families to provide a suitable home environment for children with chronic, long term, multiple disabilities to enhance their quality of life.". Melissa pointed out that they assist families in modifying their houses, find sources of funding for improvement projects, suggesting changes, and generally speak to families with a "how can we help " approach.
In its 15 years of existence , Happy 2 Be Home has helped over 50 families, with 54 kids, with individual projects that average $35,000 each. She showed a video that highlighted a few of their projects.
The organization, started and mostly supported by her church, gets referrals from local hospitals, personal contacts, and other community organizations, works with the families on a "needs not wants" basis, to assure that their resources are directed to those most in need. Families must own homes and the kids must be enrolled in school. Their aim is that, once a need is found, the recipients become part of their " family".
Funding comes from fundraisers, and their church.

Thanks you Melissa for alerting us to this worthwhile organization.
