Author MICHAEL SHAW
The Club was treated to an interesting presentation by local author MICHAEL SHAW, about his latest book "A Mall and Its Legacy THE KING OF PRUSSIA MALL". The book covers the complete history of the mall from its concept and development by Kravco in the early 60's to the present day expansion , as it remains the largest retail mall in the country. His review included history of the King of Prussia starting in 1713 when it became a township and how it was a remote hunting - fishing area until the 1950s when the turnpike, 202, and the Schuykill Expressway ,came together in that spot and development began. The mall opened in 1963 at the cost of $7 million and really took off in 1963 when Wanamakers came in. It continued to grow throughout the 70's with the Court being added in '81 featuring high end realtors.
Michael's book outlines the progress and growth of the Mall with many pictures , diagrams, and interviews and presents the way it has impacted the area for so many wears.
