Please Help the Ronald McDonald House

The Board has decided to ask our members to collect aluminum can zip tabs or 'pop tabs'. These can be found on not only soda cans but all sorts of canned drinks.  The local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House still collects them to turn in for recycling and proceeds go to help local families by paying family expenses to stay will their child is in the hospital.  Start a jar, they add up.

According to the RMHC: "We collect tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it’s easier and more hygienic to store the tabs than cans. There is also a higher concentration of aluminum in the tab itself, so those little tabs can really add up!"  Tabs bring on average about .75 per pound. and they have collected more than 350 tons of them. At the end of the year we will accumulate our collections and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please see Vanessa Cossari for more information

LAST WEEK

Heather LaRocca, LCSW, local Director of  Salvation Army  Anti Trafficking Project, was our speaker last week and gave a very informative talk on human trafficking in the U.S. and in the Norristown area. She highlighted the efforts of the SA project New Day to Stop Trafficking Program which is a multi-part program to educate the community, help those that have been trapped in trafficking, and teach all of us how to spot to and report suspicious activities. Human trafficking comes in two forms: Sex trafficking, the most widely recognized type, and Labor trafficking, which is less known, but none-the-less just as devastating. Human trafficking is the new slavery with 24.9 people caught in its web around the world, supporting a multi-billion industry. Victims can be found starting at the age of 12, and the influx of migrants across the southern border has worsened the situation here. She stressed the importance of individuals knowing of the existence of these activities that are all around us.

Earth Day 2023
It was so much fun ! Noristown Area Girl Scout troops, community supporters and the Rotary Club of Norristown participated in Earth Day 2023 in Padden Park, West Norriton.
For Earth Day, we cleaned out the community garden, cleaned up debris, planted oxygenating trees, removed weeds, restored natural drainage, planted butterfly and insect pollinator friendly vegetation. Mulching is next. The scouts and their supporters donated 3 beautiful new trees and all planted many new annuals to bring color to the garden for our coming butterfly visitors. Come visit 2101 Oakland Drive behind the playground.

We are planning our June 15th Changeover picnic at the park.

The new brick planter fashions the familiar gear shape. Not intended to be official branding, the gear is convenient shape for a circular plater.

Scout, community and club supporters/member  donated 3 trees for the garden park area.  They are stunning trees elected properly for their location and use.

The girls had so much fun working together planting annuals.

Thanks to all our Rotarians who came out to help. Especially to Diane for all of her planning to make it a success.

EACH ONE, BRING ONE Member Campaign Underway
EACH ONE, BRING ONE

President Sunanda has officially kicked off the  'Each One, Bring One'  member campaign.

Rotary Clubs need to continue to grow in order to enhance our ability to dedicate resources to solving a community or global issue.

This year, President Sunanda is asking every Club member to bring a visitor, spouse, family, friend or acquaintance to our meeting and introduce them to Rotary.

If everyone brought a guest it would double our meeting size, and if half of the visitors discovered Rotary and became a member, the club would grow by 50%.

Please think about it this week and identify someone you would like to introduce to Rotary. Bring them to a meeting and tell them why you joined.

Who will you bring ?

- USEFUL TIPS -

Technical Tip: Add a simple Club Calendar view  to your Phone
Technical Tip: Add the Club's calendar to your phone

It's easy to add this calendar view to your phone and access a simple calendar list view with one tap.

The calendar resides at this URL address, if you tap on the link below on your phone, you'll see the calendar.

You can then add it to your phone's Home screen.

(On the iPhone select the SHARE symbol [see red arrow], then scroll down and select 'Add to Home Screen')

Technical Tip: Keep my gmail out of promotions
        But, It's NOT Spam.

Is some of your expected gmail missing from the Inbox?

Aside from regular spam filtering, sometimes Google also takes  a guess at your incoming gmail and pre-categorizes it in order to cut down on spam. The Tabs 'Social' and 'Promotions' capture some of your email instead.
Well, Google doesn't always get it right.

Fortunately, even though that is the default setting, you can change the setting and control your pre-categorization completely and get all your mail back in the old inbox.
YOU can select select the problem email in 'Promotions' and drag it to the inbox,  OR....
A more reliable way is to control your own categories  or  simply have none at all.  If you uncheck the 'Social" and 'Promotions' categories in settings, your future email will not appear in those virtual folders but rather in your old inbox as expected.

Here's what you do to fix it.
Go to your inbox settings link. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/inbox
Uncheck the boxes 'Social' and 'Promotions', AND CLICK SAVE
From now on it will appear in the old inbox as expected.
